Dear student,
On behalf of the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University and the City of Skopje, we would like to welcome you and thank you for considering our University as a host for your student exchange.
This Guide has been especially designed for foreign students who intend to study temporarily at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. GENERAL INFORMATION ON SS. CYRIL AND METHODIUS UNIVERSITY IN SKOPJE
International strategy Ss. Cyril and Methodius University was founded in 1949 and
today it consists of 23 different faculties and 5 research institutes.
The language of instruction is Macedonian, however some courses are
taught in the minority languages and English language for some
postgraduate courses. The University organizes postgraduate studies in over 150 disciplines. The University has around 50.000 enrolled students in all cycles of studies.
Ss. Cyril and
Methodius University is actively following the Bologna Process, fully
accepting the Bologna Declaration as it’s strategy with the
following priorities:

ECTS -
European Credit Transfer System 1 ECTS credit is equivalent to
approximately 30 working hours. The annual workload is 60 ECTS
credits.

Enrolment Procedure and Selection of Courses Prior to the arrival, you need to arrange your Learning
agreement with the ECTS coordinator at your home institution. The IRO
officer and/or the ECTS-coordinator at the faculty of the Ss. Cyril and
Methodius University in Skopje will help you with the enrolment
procedure once you arrive.
The International
Relations Office at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje is
located at the Rectorate building (Address: Blvd. Goce Delcev, No.9,
1000 Skopje). The Office provides assistance for incoming students
regarding admission, counselling and related information. Upon arrival
all incoming students should visit the IRO (working hours:
Monday-Friday from 8 am to 4 pm).
Macedonian Language Course Macedonian is the official language of instruction at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje and the majority of the courses are taught in Macedonian. For incoming students who have no knowledge of the Macedonian language, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje organizes language classes that are free of charge and last from 3 to 6 months (this is a non-credit programme). The teaching is carried out by the Faculty of Philology in Skopje.
University Residence Hall There is a limited number of beds at the University premises
for exchange students. The International Relations Office will assist
in housing within the University premises.
Erasmus+
students can apply for a bed in the University Residence Hall which
offers accommodation in studio/apartments. The price is around 275-310
EUR/month per person.
After receiving the
Information and Invitation letter from the Ss. Cyril and Methodius
University in Skopje, please send back the request form for
housing.
The University does not guarantee place at
the University Residence Hall.
Private Accommodation The IRO office does not provide assistance in finding private
accommodation, however we can direct you to the websites of
some of the real estate agencies in Republic of North Macedonia, which will assist you in
finding the best suitable accommodation according to your preferences.

Culture and Entertainment
Skopje, the cultural centre of The Republic of North Macedonia is a beautiful and
modern city with population of about 800 000 citizens. The city and its
vicinity have plenty of cultural and historical monuments which attract

Young people have also plenty of opportunities for

Telephones The pre-paid packages for mobile phones are available at the
authorized shops of the three companies providing GSM services:
T-Mobile, One and VIP, but also at the supermarkets and
tobacconists.

Bank Account Every foreign citizen is entitled to open a non-resident bank account
in a bank in the Republic of North Macedonia. This can be only done personally, with a valid
passport.
Visa and Residence Permit Before coming to the Republic of North Macedonia as a student, you are required to obtain a visa.
The documents required for obtaining a visa have to be
taken to the nearest consulate or Embassy of the Republic of North Macedonia.

Upon
arrival in Skopje students are required to apply for a residence
permit, issued by the local administration of the Ministry of
Internal Affairs.
Health Insurance All foreign students are advised to purchase general insurance prior to
the departure to the Republic of North Macedonia. Also, it is a general recommendation for
all, to contact the International Relations Office at their home
universities for more information.
ARRIVAL IN SKOPJE
Airports: Skopje
has one international airport located about 22 kilometres East from the
city centre, which connects the city with many European cities. There
is no bus transport from the airport to the city, but taxis run
frequently from the airport to the city. The price for the taxi
transportation to or from the airport is about 15 euros.
Railways: Skopje
Central Railway Station is approximately 2 kilometres East of the
city centre. It connects Skopje with other major cities in the Republic of
North Macedonia, and also cities across the Balkans.
Taxis and Buses: Skopje
Central Bus Station, located next to the Central Railway Station, is 2
kilometres East of the city centre. There are operating bus lines
between major European cities and Skopje. There are also bus lines
through the whole city, connecting different areas; the average price
for a ticket is 30 denars or about 0,5 euro. Taxis run though the whole
city also.
